Thanks for a great 2010 celebration Story City! Velkommen to Story City's 45th annual Scandinavian Days, a lively summer festival celebrating our unique Nordic heritage, with food, music, and fun for all ages. The festival begins Friday. If weather forces the festival to move events indoors, please check this site throughout the weekend for updates. Many events such as craft show, STORY! stage, backyard circus, threshold learning, Norwegian games, will be moved to the Outlet Mall. Parade goes on, rain or shine! May the Norse Be with You! Our 2010 celebration, May The Norse Be With You, will celebrate our Norsemen traditions. The festival will be similar to the 2010 celebration, with most of our events taking place Friday and Saturday in the downtown and Sunday in the park. From Wednesday through Sunday, Judge Story's Theatrical Troupe will feature their production of Kiss Me Kate. The Festival Parade, crafters, kid's activities and food will all be centrally located. Our traditional Heritage Hall will continue to be featured at the Community Center on Friday and Saturday, featuring special Viking Village Age demonstrations and Norwegian storyteller Judith Simundson will share Scandinavian Stories. Our famous Festival Fireworks will take place on Friday evening. Sunday has events at the park, including Vintage Baseball, Carousel Rides, Museum visits, and Disc Golf Tournament Story City History: Early settlers, primarily of Norwegian, Danish, and Swedish heritage, came to the Story County area in the 1850's. In 1855, as social and business activity grew, a town was platted and named "Fairview". The town was later renamed Story City, after US Supreme Court Judge Joseph Story. Story City continues to celebrate the traditions of our earliest families with something of interest for every member of your family. As the diversity of our town grows every year, so do the entertainment and food selections of our festival. We invite you to join us for some old-fashioned family fun in celebration of our collective heritage. |
