Doing Business

Story City offers a quality mix of large and small industry, as well as service businesses, retail, and restaurants. As a certified Main Street Iowa Community, Story City takes pride in the majority of our businesses being locally owned and operated. A thriving and historically maintained downtown features the 1913 Story Theatre/Grand Opera House, the oldest continuously running theater west of the Mississippi. The Theatre, along with City Hall, are located in the Grand Hotel Block which is on the National Register of Historic Places. The downtown also features the Bertha Bartlett Public Library, Post Office, and Greater Chamber office.
By Interstate 35, you'll find the Factory Stores of America Mall, the 90-vendor Antiques Iowa Mall, Gookin Ford, Story City RV, hotels, and several fast food restaurants. Larger businesses include Bethany Life Communities, American Packaging Corporation, Generation Repair and Service, and M.H. Eby Trailers.
There is great shopping and economic prosperity in this beautiful small community.
