Cook Family Dentistry Accepts Award
Michelle Cook, D.D.S., and her family attended a grant award ceremony at the Botanical Gardens in Des Moines on January 23, 2010 with GCC Director Carolyn Honeycutt and Story City Mayor Mike Jensen. Cook was awarded a HUD Challenge Grant of $66,500 to build a new dental facility downtown on the southeast corner of Broad and Elm next to Troy's Barbershop. "That corner has been empty for many years," says Director Honeycutt, "and it will be wonderful to have this Michelle's business expand to this location. It will really complete the east entry into the downtown."
The grant is made possible through Main Street Iowa and Story City's certification as a Main Street Community. The HUD Challenge Grant program is funded through an initiative of Senator Tom Harkin's through the Housing and Urban Development program. This is the sixth round of challege grants the Senator has made available and the third grant awarded to Story City.
